原始的な植物であるシダを利用する日本産ゾウムシ上科甲虫を初めてまとめた．１新種を含む３科４属７種のゾウムシ類が，６科１０属１１種のシダ植物を利用することを明らかにするとともに，ゾウムシ類のシダ植物への適応が，被子植物からの二次的な寄主転換の結果生じた可能性を示唆した．植食性昆虫の多様な寄主利用様式の解明と植物昆虫関係学の基礎データとなる．
