薄力小麦のスポンジケーキ適性について、アミロース含量の異なる「農林61号」準同質遺伝子系統を北海道、関東、九州の各地で栽培して比較したところ、各地ともアミロース含量とスポンジケーキ体積の間に強い正の相関関係が見られた。またスポンジケーキ体積は簡易測定が可能なWater SRCと強い相関を示した。

日本全国の小麦栽培地域で問題となっている土壌伝染性ウイルス病害の小麦縞萎縮病の抵抗性遺伝子がヨーロッパ品種「Ibis」の2D染色体の長腕上の座乗位置を明らかにした。また、この抵抗性遺伝子は北海道と九州で発生している異なるタイプの小麦縞萎縮ウイルスの両方に対して有効であることを明らかにした。

北海道で春まき栽培した小麦15品種について、製粉後の小麦粉とフスマに含まれるかび毒(デオキシニバレノール)の濃度を測定した。その結果、かび毒の蓄積量に関わらず小麦粉に含まれるかび毒の濃度はふすまのかび毒濃度のおよそ半分であることを明らかにした。

小麦のアミロース含量を決定する3種類のデンプン合成酵素遺伝子の組成が異なる準同質遺伝子系統を用いて、スポンジケーキ適性とアミロース含量の関係を解析した。その結果、スポンジケーキの体積は小麦粉のアミロース含量と強い正の相関関係を持つことを明らかにした。

小麦雪腐病の人工接種法を確立するため、接種前の低温処理条件の最適化を目的として、温度および土壌水分条件を検討した結果、4℃、乾燥条件で4週間の低温処理を行うことによって、最も小麦の雪腐病抵抗性を判別しやすいことを明らかにした。
