東アフリカのジブチ（Djibouti）共和国には，北西部に標高約1500 mの山岳地帯がありJuniperus proceraを主とする「ダイの森」と呼ばれる森林地帯があるが，現地は生きたJ. proceraはわずかで枯死木の森となっている。本研究は「ダイの森」に生育していたJ. proceraの年輪情報からジブチ共和国の気候復元を行うことを目的としているが，本報告では，その前段階として倒木から採取した円板試料で年輪幅の測定を行い，年輪構造や偽年輪について報告した。

本報告ではDjibout 共和国のAli Sabieh 地方に生育し，家畜の飼料として利用されている樹木の肥大成長を把握することを目的とした。バンド式デンドロメーターやナイフマーキングを行って肥大成長の季節変化を測定した。その結果，3 月から9 月の間の成長は僅かである一方で，その後の9 月から3 月の間が主な肥大成長する期間であることが分かった。

When radial increment of tree trunks is measured using a dendrometer, we can know the radial growth have seasonal changes. On the other hand, it is also known that the values of dendrometer have diurnal changes. This diurnal change is thought to occur mainly in the cambial and bark tissues. However, it is not clear how the cambial and the bark tissues swells and shrinkages.Therefore, in this report, we aimed to clarify how tissues from xylem to bark swelling and shrinkage. We collected samples containing the xylem and the bark from tree trunks, and observed under a microscope as they were swelling and shrinkage.As a result, the width of outermost annual ring and the outer bark remained almost unchanged after drying began, but the width of the inner bark shrank significantly. On the other hand, the sample swelled to their original dimensions when water was added to the shrinkage samples. Further observation at higher magnification revealed that the cells of the shrunken were mainly phloem parenchyma cells in the inner bark and cells around the cambium.

ユーカリの自生地域は主にオーストラリアやニューギニアなど南半球であり，成長が早いことから早生樹として現地では造林が行われている。また，日本国内においても公園樹，庭木として植栽されている。東京農業大学世田谷キャンパスにも1 本のユーカリが植栽されている。夏季に樹皮が幹全体から剥がれ落ちるという年1 回のイベントはあるものの，年中緑の葉を付け同時に落葉も観察されるため，葉のフェノロジーは明瞭ではない。また木部の年輪界も不明瞭である。
そこで世田谷キャンパスに生育するユーカリの葉や樹皮，そして肥大成長のフェノロジーを観測することとした。バンド式デンドロメーターを用いた肥大成長フェノロジーについて報告した。ユーカリの肥大成長の経時変化は，日本国内で報告されている多くの樹種の肥大成長の経時変化と似ていたコブシとは大きく異なっていた。また，ユーカリにおいて直径の変化が確認できなかった6 月から直径の拡大再開までの期間が2 年間で大きく異なっていた。 -
