Many studies have reported that forest can promote human health. Forest amenities might have effects of preventing illness, producing relaxation place, rehabilitation environment, care & treatment place for disabilities, peaceful counseling space, and so forth. By experiencing forest activities for a long term and constantly, clients with mental, psychological, and physical disabilities can ease their disabilities commonly. On the other hand, lack of appropriate treatment of forest which is called “abandoned forest” has been remarkably increased in Japan. This study introduces some cases of forest activities (“Forest Therapy (Shinrin Ryoho 森林療法)” utilizing regional abandoned forest in Japan. The clients were people with mental retardation, developing disability, mental illness, cognitive impairment (dementia), and general people. After experiencing the forest therapy activities, not only clients’ body & mental conditions but also forests’ environmental conditions have been improved. These results show forest therapy has certain possibility to treat and care both of human and abandoned forests.

本研究では，樹木の葉の持つ芳香に着目し、その芳香の抗菌作用と、芳香蒸留水による育苗の成長促進効果について報告する。抗菌作用の実験では、大腸菌と黄色ブドウ球菌を用い，育苗実験では、挿し木苗を用いた。双方の実験ともに，樹種による抗菌，成長促進の差異があることと同時に，むしろその逆の作用をもたらす可能性があることが示された。

地域病院、社会福祉施設等における森林を利用した保健休養のすすめ方

森林散策をはじめ，森林環境を活用したリハビリテーション，リラクセーション，カウンセリング，作業療法など、現在さまざまな形態で森林を活用した保健休養のこころみが行われている。地域病院や社会福祉施設等においては、その周辺の森林環境の有効活用をしながら，特色ある医療、福祉の実践をこころみたいという希望も増えてきている。しかしながら，同時にその具体的な手法、特にどのように病院、施設において森林での保健休養の活動を導入すればよいのかがわからないという声も多い。そこで本論では，地域病院、社会福祉施設より要望を受け、森林の保健休養活動を導入した実践事例を通して，そのすすめ方の1モデルを提示することを目的とした。調査の結果、①森林調査，林分把握、適切な森林管理②対象者のアセスメント③対象者とその目的に応じた活動場所と作業プログラムの設定④プログラムの実践⑤実施結果の評価，次回への継承などの流れが共通して提示された。つまり，その地域の森林と対象者の状況にあわせたプログラムを設定し、実行することが大きなポイントであることが示された。
