核内共生菌Paraconiothyrium brasiliense ECN258が産生する核内受容体肝X受容体α阻害剤パラコニオチンIの全合成と絶対配置の決定について述べる。パラコニオチンIの合成法として、Evans不斉アルキル化とSharpless不斉ジヒドロキシル化を行い、パラコニオチンIの側鎖部分を構築する効率的な合成法を開発した。モデル合成により、これまで提唱されていた天然物の相対配置が誤りであることを発見し、合成物と天然物の比旋光を比較することにより、天然物の正しい絶対配置を決定した。

ピロリジン-2,4-ジオン類の効率的な合成法について報告した。本法は任意のアルデヒドおよびブチン酸アミド、ニトロメタンを炭素源として用い、これらのニトロMannich反応による縮合と1,3-双極子付加環化を利用して多様な側鎖を有する類縁体の合成法を可能にした。ニトロMannich反応を不斉触媒存在下で行うことにより光学活性体の合成も可能である。上記の手法を応用した天然のテトラミド、Laccarinの合成についても報告した。
