近年、熱帯諸国では、これまでの無秩序な森林伐採に対する反省から持続的森林管理が導入され始めている。この主目的は木材の持続的利用であるが、炭素貯留に対するプラス効果も持つ可能性がある。無秩序伐採林・持続的管理林・原生林において、生態系内の炭素貯留量を定量した。生態系モデルCENTURYを用いて様々な伐採/気候変動シナリオを組み込んだ炭素動態シミュレーションも行い、持続可能な施業方法の提案を行った。
