    Post-ovulatory oocyte aging degrades the quality and developmental competence of embryos for implantation. To evaluate the effects of oocyte aging on the initial differentiation of embryos, we examined trophectoderm (TE) formation and the expressions of TE differentiation-related signaling molecules in embryos derived from in vitro aged oocytes.

    <p>This report describes the breeding of long-clawed shrews under laboratory conditions. During pairing, females waggled their waists, causing horizontal shaking of the tail, and walked around the males. Mounting was observed on the second day of pairing. In the two pairs with successful subsequent deliveries, mounting was observed 51 and 9 times with average (±<i>SD</i>) durations of 39 ± 59 and 56 ± 54 s, respectively. Similar multiple-mounting behavior was also observed in those pairs for which mating attempts proved unproductive. The gestational period was approximately 21–22 days. Weaning was successful in 4 of the 12 observed deliveries, and the weaning period was approximately 31–36 days. During the lactation period, the females constructed dome-like nests using straw mulch. The activity time of lactating mothers increased as the lactation period advanced. Weanlings attained almost the same body size as subadults, although their body weight did not increase until nine weeks after weaning.</p>

    Post-ovulatory aging causes a high frequency of aneuploidy during meiosis II in mouse oocytes, irrespective of maternal age. In this study, we evaluated the effects of post-ovulatory oocyte aging on the protection of chromosomal cohesion involved in aneuploidy, and verified the relationship between PP2A or SGO2 expression and the phosphorylation level of REC8 in oocytes. The findings show that post-ovulatory aging destabilizes the centromeric cohesin protection in oocytes and can cause aneuploidy, which is often observed in aged oocytes during meiosis II.

    The emu (Dromaius novaehollandiae) is a new poultry. In this study, we investigated the haplotype composition of mitochondrial DNA among emu populations farmed in Japan. We sequenced the D-loop region in 109 individuals, and detected four substitution sites and three haplotypes (Hap-a, -b, and -c).

    抗炎症や細胞増殖作用を持つプロテオグリカン(PG)は、抗老化物質としてその効果が皮膚や軟骨組織で確認されているが、性腺組織に対する効果は演者らの知る限り報告がない。そこで、マウスにPGを長期間経口摂取させ卵巣の抗老化に対する効果を検証した。ガン制御因子p53や細胞周期阻害因子p21の発現低下から、PGの摂取が卵巣における細胞老化(老化細胞の蓄積)を抑制する可能性が示唆された。

    アルコール(Alc)依存モデルマウスで、過排卵処理後の採卵成績、卵母細胞の単為発生を観察した。10または20%のAlcをICRに 30~40日間自由摂取させても、摂水、摂餌、増体重、発情周期、過排卵処理で得られた卵子の数・品質・単為発生に大きな影響はなかった。

    陰嚢を超音波治療器で処置すると精子形成が阻害され、一定期間後に回復することがラットやサル類で知られている。演者は汎用理化機器の超音波破砕機でマウスの陰嚢を処置し、一時的な雄性不妊モデル作製を試みた。その結果、超音波処理の影響は、処理温度の上昇によって増強されることが示された。
