<p>Recently, the number of foreign tourists has been increasing in Japan. Although large cities are normally popular sightseeing spots for domestic tourism, tourists on repeat visits tend to expand their destinations to rural areas of the country. Muslim-friendly tourism in Japan requires additional services from service providers in rural areas to prepare appropriate food and accommodation as well as ensure effective communication with Muslims while honoring their cultural values when Muslims visit. This paper aims to capture the trend of Muslim-friendly tourism in Japan across the country with a focus on municipal attempts and analyzing three particular cases in Kumamoto, Okayama and Ishikawa prefectures.</p><p>As an overview, many municipalities have engaged in related projects through which they provide maps and information related to food, accommodation, and prayer rooms for the sake of Muslim tourists. In sightseeing areas where foreign tourists are welcome, stakeholders are actively connected. In the case of Hitoyoshi city, a woman entrepreneur plays important roles in creating a Muslim-friendly atmosphere in its rural area with the help of community involvement among people in the farm stay business. In Okayama and the other two cities, the owner of a catering service joins the farm stay business for foreign tourists, including Muslims, banking on his own experience of serving food in accordance with religious concerns. In Komatsu city, the municipal office takes the initiative to promote Muslim-friendly tourism and encourages restaurant owners to join its tourism service. Although the cases in this study are limited to just three, we were able to observe the different ways by which these project leaders create Muslim-friendly tourism avenues and take responsibility for development. Since their attempts, through trial and error, vary with regard to developing Muslim-friendly tourism at farm stays and restaurants, this further research can benefit other related organizations and stakeholders by sharing knowledge for domestic tourism development. In addition, from the viewpoint of the service providers, it is important to investigate Muslim preferences for tourism content and its environment in non-Muslim countries such as Japan.</p>

Background
Ethnic cuisines are increasingly popular in global food markets. This study identifies the personal values underlying Malaysian consumers' decision making with respect to Japanese food.
Methods
A total of 134 Malaysian consumers were interviewed and analyzed using means-end chain methodology.
Results
Our findings indicate that Japanese food is chosen for the values that the attribute tasty can help achieve, not for that attribute per se.
Conclusion
Identified values primarily related to longevity, meaningful life-style and sense of accomplishment. The identification of these connections is an important step in understanding why a particular ethnic food is favored by foreign consumers. Our findings could be helpful to restaurateurs in meeting marketing strategies with consumer values and policymakers when designing health campaigns. -

It is undoubtable that Green Revolution (GR) has a significant contribution to rice production. However, GR also emerges the detrimental impact, mainly on the environment. The expectation is that organic farming is an appropriate solution for dealing with this issue. On one side, the increased in demand for healthy food implies the organic farming has a good prospect. However, the adoption rate of organic farming is still low among farmers. This study aims at examining the perceptions of paddy farmer and factor affecting attitude and behavioral intention to adopt organic rice farming. This study involved 600 paddy farmers as respondents in Sragen District, Central Java, Indonesia. The study grouped the respondents into two categories, i.e., semi-organic and conventional farmers. The data were collected through a structured questionnaire. The results showed that the perceived usefulness, perceived ease, and environmental concern affected positive and significantly on attitude. Meanwhile, the behavioral intention was influenced significantly by attitude, subjective norm, moral obligation and perceived behavioral control. Conclusively, the perceptions on technology characteristic, environmental concern, moral obligation have a positive impact on attitude and intention to adopt organic rice farming. Therefore, the dissemination of organic rice technology should be accelerated to take the advantages of positive attitudes by changing their mindset toward adopting organic rice farming.

© 2017 Taylor & Francis. Generally, vegetarianism has been gaining in popularity, especially among the Chinese and Indian communities. This could be due to religious beliefs, or it could be due to health concerns. The advancement in food technology has made the intake of plant-based protein products possible for vegetarian consumers through meat substitutes. As food consumption trends in Malaysia are characterized by foods with high cholesterol and calories and lower amounts of plant foods, there is concern about healthy eating and health among Malaysians. Statistics have shown that there are obesity and heart-related problems among Malaysians, that the numbers are increasing, and that these phenomena are related to the food that is currently being consumed by Malaysians. The objective of this study is to identify the potential market for vegetarian food among non-vegetarian Chinese consumers in Malaysia. The specific objectives are to determine the dimensions of non-vegetarian consumers’ opinions toward vegetarian food and diets, and to determine the factors that influence non-vegetarian consumers’ opinions toward vegetarian food and diets. Five hundred Chinese respondents who are non-vegetarians were interviewed using a structured questionnaire distributed in Pinang. Descriptive analysis, factor analysis, and binary logistic regression were used in this study. The results of the study show that more than 58.6% of the respondents have a positive opinion toward vegetarian food and diets. They could be influenced by their demographic profiles, food preferences and knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs toward vegetarian food and diets. Environmental and animal well-being concerns, being taught to be vegetarian for religious reasons, and the influence of surrounding people on eating habits were also important factors influencing non-vegetarians’ opinions on vegetarian food and diets.
