エチオピア国中央部の畑地において，気温，相対湿度，日射，風速の特徴を明らかにし，灌漑や降雨に伴う土壌の浸潤特性について基礎的な観測を行った。その結果，乾季や雨季の直前など，土壌が非常に乾燥した状態では，灌漑水や降雨が土壌の下層まで十分に届かないことが明らかになった。

タイ国ではヤシや大豆を原料とした植物油の生産が盛んであり，その精製にベントナイトが用いられ，大量に廃棄されている。本研究では廃棄ベントナイトを鶏糞や籾殻とともにコンポスト化することによって，土壌の酸性や保肥力，および保水性が改良され，作物の乾物重量が顕著に増大することを明らかにした。
