ヨシはCdにさらされると炭酸同化産物を優先的に茎に配分し茎にデンプンを蓄積した。これに伴い、デンプン合成の律速酵素活性も上昇していた。水耕液Cd濃度100μMで栽培してもこれらの代謝適応が見られた。

鉄欠乏に強いオオムギ品種ほど、鉄欠乏時の下位葉の窒素含量低下が大きく、アミノ酸などの転流が予想された。下位葉の炭素は特に根と根からの分泌物に分配されており、根からの鉄キレーター放出のために同化炭素・同化窒素を優先的に根に転流させていることが示唆された。
