テッポウユリとスカシユリの種間交雑では雑種胚が発育途中で枯死するため雑種個体は得られない。胚が枯死する前に胚を切り出して培養する胚培養が有効だが、胚は小さく技術的に難しい。そこで雑種胚を含む子房を輪切りにして培養する「子房輪切り培養法」の手法を試みたところ容易に雑種個体を得ることに成功した。

南アフリカ産ハオルシア・テッセラータの体細胞染色体数を調査したところ二倍体から八倍体までが認められた。地理的には南アフリカ南部に二倍体が分布し、北部に移行するに従い倍数性が高まることが明らかとなった。

ユリの「子房輪切り培養法」の技術を確立するため、タカサゴユリを用いて培養条件を検討した。培地条件を構成するの様々な要因をL32直交配列表に割り付けて検証を行い、適正な培養条件を追った。またこの手法で胚培養が極めて困難な極小胚を発育させ、幼植物体を得ることが可能であることを示した。
